Our idols aren’t cute; they’re demonic

You might not bow down to golden statues of God, but we’ve all magnified things in our lives that eclipse our love for the Lord. We know it’s wrong, but our hearts are prone to wander. Today Amy and Michelle tackle the tough subject of idolatry. Not only for us individually, but for churches, collectively.

I’m guilty of being drawn into those women’s ‘bible/book studies’. I can now see the narcissistic bent you were referring to. Better late than never.

God opens every Christian’s eyes in His own good time. Don’t forget to check out the Bible studies at Naomi’s Table and Michelle Lesley- Discipleship for Christian Women!

So today a doctor wanted to take me off medication I’ve been on for almost two years and that has been working for me. She had no clue about my medical history, but promised that a few of my problems (that I had not had that much of an issue with before) would be cleared (ie my skin). So I called my mother and she was totally against this new treatment plan. For a moment I resented her for seemingly not supporting my newly important goal of perfect skin. But one of the 10 commandments came to me at that moment, “Honour your father and your mother” and I went against my rebellious urges. My point is that this moment of self idolatry was quelled by the Word, and that it was so easy to fall into the trap. Vigilance is important in an age where self gratification is so widespread, and can easily lead us to going against the Word of God.
