Spiritual Formation & Spiritual Disciplines

What is Spiritual Formation? It’s a movement started 40 years ago with by Richard Foster, author of Celebration of Discipline: The path to spiritual growth.

The movement appealed to many churches a decade ago, and is now experiencing a resurgence as more churches embrace this model. Amy and Michelle discusses how Spiritual Formation has some unbiblical practices, unbiblical origins, an unbiblical view of man’s human condition, and the risk of having spiritual experiences that are not from God.

Hi May- They’re right here on this page under the heading “Resources”. Just above the little PayPal and Patreon boxes. Just scroll up and click. :0)

Just wanted to leave a thank you. A acquaintance had asked a group of us to join her for a hike where we would all go our separate ways “in the christian discipline of solitude,” and then meet back together and “share about our experience.” I thought it sounded weird to meet up to go on a hike with someone, just to go off by myself somewhere. But I also thought it sounded a little “cookey” and something about it sounded like maybe it wasn’t in the bible. I know we are to pray by ourselves, but this just sounded weird, like I had to do extra stuff. I’m having a hard time using the right words to describe it. Anyway, the first link was helpful, and it was good to know that “solitude” was one of those disciplines that aren’t biblical. I’m curious to learn more about the “why” behind why it’s not biblical. I feel like it’s off, but I don’t have the words to explain the reason why. I’ll take a listen to the podcast. Again, just wanted to say thanks for tackling this, bc I had a hard time finding info on it. Thank you.
